A Rare Scottish Basket-Hilted Broadsword
Last quarter of the 17th Century
In excavated condition, with tapering blade (edges chipped) with central fuller running almost to the tip on each side and retaining traces of a Solingen bladesmith's signature on each face of the forte, short rectangular ricasso, iron 'ribbon' guard (loose and damaged) involving saltires and incorporating circular panels and S's, and retaining traces of incised line decoration, domed pommel, and later staghorn grip
