A 21-Bore Austrian Flintlock Sporting Gun
Circa 1725
With two-stage barrel inlaid in silver with a dog and strapwork at the breech and struck with Irish registration numbers, silver fore-sight, brass-lined touch-hole, engraved tang, bevelled brass lock engraved with a sportsman and his dog in pursuit of a stag, figured walnut half-stock (reduced from full) carved with strapwork in relief, cheek-piece, brass mounts engraved with strapwork and sporting motifs, including side-plate chiselled with a boar-hunt, escutcheon within strapwork cartouche and surmounted by a hound, pierced brass barrel band incorporating a back-sight, engraved brass fore-end cap and ramrod-pipes, and later brass-tipped ramrod, the butt-plate numbered '5'
