A Group Of Six Iron Rowel Spurs
Mainly 17th Century, the first three probably Italian
Comprising a spur with hinged straight-sided heel-band with terminals in the form of large circular buckles, short downcurved neck with star-shaped rowel, and decorated throughout with diagonal gadrooning, alternately roped and plain; another, similar, but with sides of normal construction; another with broad heel-band, its upper and lower edges bordered by a fuller, the sides U-shaped at the ends with small figure-eight terminals, short downcurved neck, and star-shaped rowel; and three others, one with pierced heel-band for screwing to a boot-heel
