A French bronze casket modelled with a pheasant, late 19th century
Cast after a model by Auguste Nicolas Cain, the pheasant to the cover signed CAIN to the base, the domed cover cast overall with entwining blackberry stems, the body with further animal groups cast in relief in oval reserves to back and front, the handles to each end and the four feet modelled as entwining oak branches with acorns -- 9¾in. (24.8cm.) wide, 7¾in. (19.7cm.) high
