There can be no doubt that Jaguar's brilliant team of engineers headed by William Heynes had created a design classic, which was evident the instant the wraps came off the new E Type Jaguar on Press Day at the 1961 Geneva Salon de l'Automobile. Following the fabled five outright victories at Le Mans in the 1950s with the lovely C and D Type sports racing cars, the men at the Coventry factory knew exactly how to make a fully equipped, luxury production sports car that could outperform all its competitors and undercut them on price. And how to do it without compromising on style, braking-power or road-holding. At the heart of the new car was a 3.8 litre version of that fine twin overhead camshaft XK series straight six. The E type's creators drew on many Jaguar design strands and standards, installing the engine in a structure that incorporated elements of the C type's tubular chassis, the D type's light alloy central monocoque, the independent suspension of the E2A prototype seen at Le Mans in 1960, all wrapped in Malcolm Sayer's exquisitely designed aerodynamic bodyshell. The E Type's 140-plus mph maximum speed was matched by flashing acceleration; all that performance readily controlled by confident handling and powerful disc-brakes all round. The sleek fixed-head coupe provided freedom from wind buffetting at up to very high speeds, yet providing plenty of luggage space behind the front seats, for touring purposes.

With just 3 previous owners, this car is now beautifully restored, paperwork includes some invoices and a photographic record of restoration to exacting original specification. An old-style log-book, a current MoT certificate and V5 document are provided with the vehicle, which is ready for road use.
