2nd Lieutenant Vernon Dingwall Wethered was born in November 1899 and joined the Royal Air Force direct from Clifton College in early 1918. He appears to have qualified as an Aeroplane and Seaplane Pilot in October of the same year and saw brief service with No. 70 Wing. Wethered was placed on the Unemployed List in January 1919.
