Lot Essay

This present work was most probably painted on the spot during Week's first expedition to India in November 1882.

Ahmedabad is the major mercantile town of Gujarat. The carved wooden house and shop fronts are typical of the architecture of the region.

We are grateful for the assistance of Dr. Ellen K. Morris in preparing this catalogue entry.
