EDWARDS, William (Lieutenant)
Sketches in Scinde from drawings by Lieut. Wm. Edwards, 86th. Regt. lithographed by Charles Haghe. [London: Graves], 1846.
2° (553 x 450mm). Hand-coloured lithographic title with integral facsimile signature, mounted on card, 1 leaf letterpress text ('Description of the plates') printed in blue on smaller format paper (532 x 386mm.), lithographic dedication leaf, and plan, 10 FINE HAND-COLOURED LITHOGRAPHIC PLATES, heightened with varnish, by Haghe after Williams, all mounted on card in imitation of watercolours, with ink-ruled border to each mount (spotting, occasionally affecting image area of title and some plates, blank margins of text leaf, dedication and plan with small tears). Unbound as issued in original morocco-backed cloth, upper cover blocked in gilt (spine and ties lacking, worn). Provenance: S.Jackson (presentation inscription 'Presentation Copy S. Jackson Esqre. with his Pupils very kind regards April 1846').
A FINE AND RARE COPY OF THE COLOURED SERIES, based on sketches carried out during Major General Sir Charles Napier's campaign which led to the annexation of Scinde (or Sind), and his campaign against the hill tribes on the northern frontier, ending with Beja Khan's surrender at Traki on March 9th 1845.
