Lot Essay
The artist graduated from Hong-Ik University in 1976 and lives in Seoul. He has had four one-person exhibitions at the Duson Gallery in Seoul between 1985 and 1991. He exhibited at the 42nd Venice Biennale in 1986 and at the Messe Basel, Switzerland in 1996, 1997 and 1998. He had one-person exhibitions at the Marisa del Rey Gallery, New York in 1998 and at the Gana Art Center, Seoul in 1998. His paintings are in the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Kwachon and the Ho-Am Art Museum, Seoul.
In this paining Ko has used three symbols: a small pot, fur and a woman's shoe. He chose these three objects because women are associated with cooking pots, and they are supposed to love fur coats, although the fur here is also symbolic of the animals being cooked. The shoe size (5½ B) is the ideal of women from the country.
