**An Unusual Pair of Ivory Hammock Ends

Each of slender curved form horizontally pierced with fifty suspension holes and well carved in relief at the ends with ruyi heads and foliate scrolls, further carved in the center on both the top and bottom with a small concave medallion encircled by four ruyi heads and flanked by leaf sprays supporting a further ruyi, with a rich russet patina

Compare two pairs of ivory hammock ends included in an exhibition by Nicholas Grindley, New York, March 2000, and illustrated in the Catalogue, no. 2, carved with a continuous design of writhing dragons, where the author also mentions a larger pair in the Sir Victor Sassoon Chinese Ivories Trust included in the opening exhibition of the Ivy Wu Gallery at the Royal Scottish Museum, 1996.
