Sancai-Glazed Pottery Figures of a Horse and Groom
Tang Dynasty
The horse standing foursquare on a rectangular base with head slightly turned to the left, the body covered with a straw glaze, the hogged mane, saddle blanket and hoofs glazed in bright amber; the foreign groom standing with hands positioned and pierced to hold reins and unglazed head turned toward the horse, one sleeve of his amber coat tied around the waist exposing the green undergarment
