The rectangular hinged lid with ratchet mirror to the reverse enclosing a well with three further circular wells, the support shaped as an Ionic column on a concave-canted rectangular base, lacking fittings, restorations, the hinges replaced, originally with a door to the columnar shaft
22½ in. (57 cm.) wide; 34 in. (86 cm.) high; 19 in. (48 cm.) deep

Lot Essay

A washstand of nearly identical design was sold anonymously in these Rooms, 9 December 1993, lot 58, while a further pair, the property of Geoffrey Bennison [+], was sold in these Rooms, 26-27 September 1985, lot 93.
