Qajar Persia, second half 19th century
Manuscript on cream paper, 239ff. with 18ll. of fine black naskh within gold clouds, gold roundels between verses, sura headings in red on gold panels with blue spandrels, gold marginal medallions, opening bifolio with contents in alternating red and blue naskh on gold squares with gold and polychrome floral illuminated margins, followed by two further illuminated bifolios with a prayer and the start of the first two sura, similarly illuminated closing bifolio with last two sura, very good condition, in earlier floral lacquer binding with doublures dated Sha'ban 12?8 and signed Abu Taleb al Hasani
