Details
Two late 19th-Century French brass astronomical models,
each stamped HENRI ROBERT, PARIS, one inscribed on the underside of the walnut base Précession des équinoxes: 26,000ans écliptique pole 23°=½, the model made from lacquered brass with rotating horizontal ecliptic plane divided for the twelve houses of the Zodiac with sigils, a central rotating index showing the solar position in four quadrants, the equatorial ring inclined at 23½° and with a vertical arc through the equinoxes and ecliptic pole with polar indexes at the base on each side -- 8in. (20.3cm.) high; the second model inscribed on the underside of the walnut base révolution de l'orbite en 110,000ans, also in lacquered-brass, with a rotating open quartered circle representing the solstices and equinoxes, and a rotating orbital ellipse to show the Earth's eliptical orbit and disparate lengths of the seasons -- 5in. (12.7cm.) high
