Banded in ebony and boxwood lines and crossbanded in tulipwood overall, the rectangular top with scrolling broken pediment and a central plinth above a Greek-key moulding and simulated fluting and rosette inlay above a pair of doors with oval centres and spangels to each corner and with 'S' pattern key holes, enclosing two sliding sliding trays, the lower section with two short drawers and two long graduated drawers, on shaped bracket feet, restorations and lacking two sliding sliding trays, the Greek-key moulding partially replaced and losses, the shelves re-supported, the drawers with traces of blue paper lining

The medallioned door pattern featured in Messrs. A Hepplewhite & Co.'s, The Cabinet-maker and Upholsterer's Guide, London, 1788, pl. 88, and also in the 1788 design book of Gillows of London and Lancaster. Another Gillows pattern of that same year features the fluted and pattera-enriched frieze (L. Boynton, Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800, Royston, 1995, figs. 132 and 135). A related pediment and inlaid frieze featured on a clothes-press, formerly in the Percival Griffiths Collection (illustrated in P. Macquoid and R. Edwards, The Dictionary of English Furniture, London, rev. ed., 1954, vol. II, p. 170, fig. 32) and sold in these Rooms from the collection of the late M. T. Cooper Bland, Esq., 19 July 1984, lot 146.
