One of the leading exponents of objets de vertu in the Renaissance Revival taste of the late nineteenth century, Karl Rössler described his speciality as "Kunstgewerbliche Gegenstände in Gold und Silber - Email und Antique Imitation" in an 1898 directory (W. Neuwirth, Lexikon Wiener Gold- und Silberschmiede unde ihre punzen 1867-1922, 1977, p. 152).

A smaller cup and cover by Rössler was sold Christie's London, 24 February 2000, lot 22.
