A Fine Cased 15-Bore Percussion Sporting Gun

With browned twist barrel and silver fore-sight, signed breech section octagonal then polygonal, engraved case-hardened patent breech with pierced platinum plug, case-hardened tang finely engraved with scrollwork on a matted ground, signed lock engraved with marine monsters and scrollwork and with vertical projection allowing the lock retaining screw to pass into the patent breech, figured walnut half-stock, blued iron mounts engraved en suite with the barrel tang, chequered grip, silver escutcheon engraved with owner's crest, a stag's head, and initials 'CH', horn fore-end cap, original brass-mounted ramrod, and much of its original finish: in original lined and fitted mahogany case with accessories including Dixon powder-flask, the lid with trade label for circa 1824-1840 and with flush-fitting carrying handle and circular escutcheon engraved with the same crest and initials as the gun, London proof marks, the barrel forged by Charles Lancaster
