An Unusual 9-Bore Anglo-Indian Flintlock Duck Gun
The lock by Grice, dated 1760
With fine heavy swamped two-stage russet barrel inlaid with gold lines (some losses) and with gold-damascened koftgari lotus flowers and foliage, the muzzle, intersection, and rear of the breech each with a band of raised gold-damascened ornament, the forward section cut with longitudinal flutes, and the rear section of 'hog's back' form, engraved grooved iron tang, rounded Pattern 1756 musket lock engraved with 'GR' crowned and signed and dated on the tail, figured walnut half-stock (bruised and with minor repairs) carved in relief with a shell behind the barrel tang, gilt-brass mounts engraved with rococo ornament, solid side-plate engraved with a trophy of arms, trigger-guard with first pattern acorn finial, cast and chased escutcheon, gilt-brass fore-end cap and ramrod-pipes (one missing), and associated iron ramrod (some wear, some pitting on iron parts)
