Anne Hyde, Duchess of York (1637-71) was the eldest daughter of Edward Hyde, afterwards Earl of Clarendon. She was the maid of honour to the Princess of Orange, 1654. She became engaged to James, Duke of York at Breda, in 1659, and was privately married to him in London in 1660. Only two of their children survived, to become Queens: Mary (wife of William III) and Anne.
