The attribution to Godwin is based on a number of elements in the construction of the chair to be found in other of his pieces.
The open patterning of the arms is very much in his style and can be found on tables (Soros: Cat. No. 226-b, 304-i) as well as settees (Cat. No. 119, 123, 130). The joint of arm and front leg is also the same as that used on various versions of Godwin's famous sideboard (Cat. Nos. 304b-304f) as well as wall hanging bookcases (Cat. Nos. 320 & 320a) and the 'Monkey' cabinet in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum .

There is also a drawing taken from an Anglo-Egyptian chair in the British museum which is reproduced in a watercolour interior that bears comparison for the high, slatted back rest and open patterned sides (pp. 159 & 153).
