[CUSTER, George Armstrong.]
Document signed ("Stephen Otis") as Colonel 7th Cavalry, also signed by Captain Benteen, partly printed and accomplished in manuscript, Fort Rice, Dakota Territory, March 31, 1878, being a requisition "for Horse Medicines and dressings." 1 page, oblong quarto, some wear at the folds and minor foxing. Two years after the Little Big Horn, Custer's old command continues its relentless task. Sitting Bull has fled to Canada. In 1881, he will return and surrender and the mighty Dakota Sioux will have passed into memory. And the irony for us peace-loving people is that the only reason we remember them at all is that they killed so many of us on that clear June day in the summer of '76.
