A PARIS PARCEL BISCUIT CLARET AND GOLD-GROUND CENTERPIECE BASKET
Early 19th century
Modeled as two biscuit figures of bacchantes kneeling back-to-back on a tassled cushion, their heads tipped back and supporting a reticulated basket, the rectangular base moulded on the front and back with winged panthers centering a basket of fruit, the short sides with ribbon tied swags of fruit
163/8in. (41.6cm.) high; 125/8in. (32cm.) wide
Sale room notice
In the catalogue photo, a flat screw head rather than a finial is suspended from the underside of the basket. This is due to incorrect assembly. This error has been corrected and a gilt-bronze pinecone finial is now suspended from the underside of the basket between the backs of the two kneeling nymphs.
