Lot Essay

Carl Alexander, 5th Prince of Thurn and Taxis (1770-1827) married the brilliant but notoriously outrageous Princess Mathilde of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, sister of the famous Queen Luise of Prussia. Another miniature of this sitter was sold in these rooms on 21 June 1999, lot 188.
