A box of similar size, shape and decorative scheme, but decorated in wucai style is in the collection of the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in The Compete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, vol. 38, Porcelains in Polychrome and Contrasting Colours, Hong Kong, 1999, no. 40.

The convention of depicting water using fine, parallel lines was often used in the Wanli reign, and can also be seen on a vase in the Shanghai Museum, illustrated by Wang Qing-zheng in Underglaze Blue and Red, Hong Kong, 1987, no. 102.
