Each side painted in dark inky blue tones with auspicious characters wishing longevity and good fortune, among cloud-scrolls below a collar of pendent ruyi lappets around the neck and key-pattern around the rim, minor wear to extremities

Lot Essay

Facetted forms, which had been popular in the Yuan dynasty, rose to prominence again in the 16th century. However, the neck of this Wanli octagonal double-gourd vase is considerably longer than that of its 14th century counterpart.
