The lavish use of mahogany and distinctive high-hipped outline of the base with moulded angles relates this impressive bureau-cabinet to the output of cabinet-makers in Bordeaux, which as a busy port enabled easy access to exotic timbers. Related Bordeaux bureaux of very similar profile are illustrated in L. Malfoy, Le Meuble de Port, Paris, 1992, pp. 113 and 115.
