Early 18th Century, possibly Piedmont
The rectangular plate framed by a foliate slip, surrounded by rectangular bevelled plates with foliate strapwork clasps to the corners, surmounted by an arched cresting headed by a mask and a shell, above a panelled strapwork border edged with foliage, with paper label inscribed '1939', the cresting rebacked

Lot Essay

A mirror in the Museo Civico d'Arte Antico in Turin with closely related strapwork ornament, attributed to either the Piedmont or Lombardy regions, and also, like this mirror, obviously influenced by Louis XIV prototypes, is illustrated in L. Malle, Museo Civico di Torino : Mobili e Arredi Lignei, Turin, 1972, fig. 141.
