A PAIR OF ORMOLU-MOUNTED IMARI JARS AND COVERS
Edo Period (late 17th century)
Of octagonal section decorated in various coloured-enamels and gilt on underglaze blue with four shaped-cartouches depicting cranes in flight among pine trees, and sprays of peonies, the shoulder with lappets filled with peonies, the covers similarly decorated and surmounted by a finial modelled as a shishi on rockwork, each fitted with an ormolu base modelled as scrolling foliage, 19th century, one jar with crack and crazing, minor damage to finials
