AN OCTAGONAL IMARI JAR AND COVER
Edo period (late 17th century)
Decorated in various coloured-enamels and gilt on underglaze blue with variously shaped cartouches depicting cranes and minogame among pine and plum trees, long-tailed birds in flight over blossoming cherry trees, the main body decorated with sprays of chrysanthemums, peonies and leaves, the shoulder with shishi jumping among peonies and dragons among clouds within panels, the cover similarly decorated and surmounted by a finial modelled as shishi on rockwork, the jar with a crack and finial with old damage
