4° (373 x 261mm). 26 numbered, hand-coloured lithographic plates heightened with tempera. Without letterpress but with manuscript title and one-page plate list supplied in a contemporary hand. (Mounted on guards throughout, some thumb-soiling, a small number of plates lightly spotted or slightly stained.) Late 19th-century half cloth and marbled boards. Provenance: Marquess of Cambridge (bookplate); N.M. (stamp on verso of each plate).

THE MARTIAL SPLENDOUR OF THE NEAPOLITAN ARMY AND NAVY DISPLAYED IN 112 FIGURES, STRIKINGLY-COLOURED IN GOUACHE. There are relatively few iconographies of Italian army uniforms, and the rarity of this work is such that Colas was unable to give a full bibliographical description, leaving it unclear whether or not a letterpress title and plate list are called for. Colas 664; Hiler p. 178 ('catalogued from Colas'); not in Lipperheide.
Special notice
No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis.
