Cheque issued by the Banque du Congo Belge, Leopoldville, 14 March 1942, for the sum of deux cent cinquante mille livres sterling, signed by General P. Ermens, the reverse inscribed by C.G. Hope Gill, H.B.M. Consul-General, Banque du Congo Belge 'Pay to the order of The Right Honourable Winston Churchill, Prime Minister & First Lord of the Treasury' with the autograph signature 'Winston S. Churchill' below, in a silver presentation frame, hallmarked Mappin & Webb, London, 1942, on a wooden plinth with a similarly hallmarked silver plaque inscribed in Flemish, English and French, 'In grateful recognition by Belgian pilots and their British comrades of the Royal Air Force of the gift of fighter aircraft from the Belgian Congo in the common cause of freedom. "They shall mount up with Wings as Eagles" (frame slightly dented, wooden plinth scratched).
