One-page letter, signed 'Sir my brother/your good brother/George R', from St. James's, 31 December 1745, 4°, integral address leaf, two seals, to 'my Brother the King of the Two Sicilys' [Charles IV (1716-1788)], pleased to hear the news that his wife has 'been safely brought to bed of a Princess' and sending his congratulations (creased on folds).

Lot Essay

As Duke of Parma, the future Charles III of Spain conquered Naples and Sicily in 1734, during the war of Polish Succession, becoming King over them as Charles IV. When he succeeded to the Spanish throne in 1759, he handed over Naples and Sicily to his third son, Ferdinand I.
