One-page typed letter in French, with autograph subscription and signed 'John J. Pershing', from American Expeditionary Force, Office of the Commanding General, Paris, 8 August 1917, 8°, to General Pétain 'au Commandant en Chef les Armées du Nord et du Nord-Est', regarding the location of his headquarters and deciding on Chaumont. He will send some of his officers there at the end of the week and asks that the 'Commandant de la Place' gives them full assistance in setting up the offices (creased on fold).
