With many Phantom III Rolls-Royce carrying formal and upright coachwork, due to the sheer size of its chassis, it is unusual to find examples of Saloon or owner/driver coachwork, such as this, with elegant and well-proportioned bodywork by Salmons and Sons. Salmons were more well-known for their Tickford conversions to saloon bodies and folding-head coachwork, indeed this must have been one of the last cars they built under this name, before they adopted the Tickford title for their company in 1940. This order was completed for Mr John White of Rushden, Northants, who took delivery in August 1938.

The attractive flowing lines of its design are enhanced by the fitment of wheel discs, and the car has the provision of fitted luggage and tool tray in the boot, as well as a sunroof. In two tone livery, the interior, which is original except for the front seat squabs is equipped with picnic trays and is remarkably complete in detail.

This Phantom III has clearly remained unused for some years, and whilst it has been run, must be considered in need of mechanical restoration. Similarly the coachwork and interior are generally presentable but would benefit from attention. However, given the nature of its styling, it would seem that this would make an excellent basis for a concours restoration, which would reward its purchaser with a rare and sporting Phantom III.

Sold with copies of the Rolls-Royce build sheets which confirm some history, there are also a number of tools and a jack with the car.
