1953 ROLLS ROYCE SILVER WRAITH LIMOUSINE
COACHWORK BY HOOPER & CO No. 9749
Chassis No.BLW15
Engine No. L14B
Black over blue with dark blue leather to front and rear
Engine: Six cylinder-in-line 4257cc, overhead inlet, side exhaust valves, single downdraught Zenith carburettor; Gearbox: manual four speed with synchromesh; Suspension: independent front by wishbone and coil spring, half elliptic springs to beam rear axle; Brakes: servo assisted front, mechanical rear. Right hand drive.
In the post-war period of the early 1950s Rolls Royce was still producing motorcars reminiscent of the days of the Empire. The Hooper- bodied long wheel-base limousine is a fine example of this bygone era.
The above vehicle was delivered to its first owner by Caffyns of Eastbourne on July 3rd 1953, with only three further owners to date.
Chassis BLW15 is a particularly attractive example with an ingenious mechanism for the glass divider panel, that can be raised, so not only transform the car into a conventional open interior configuration but at the same time fit over the opening sunroof that is located above the rear passenger compartment. This feature makes summer motoring a joy which is an asset not common to the majority of limousines.
The vehicle is equipped with a cocktail cabinet and its original model 4200 radio. Additional special features from new include the omission
of step-irons and a flat type petrol tank.
This Silver Wraith is sold in running order, although minor attention to the bodywork would be advisable in order to fully enhance the beauty of this car, which is sold with several original service invoices as well as copies of the factory build-sheets.
The original buff logbook is supplied with the car which shows the first registration as having been BHC 888. Subject to availability and the vehicle remaining in the U.K. this number could be applied for by the new owner.
The car is at present registered in the European Union, so for U.K. road usage it will need to be registered with the DVLA in Swansea.
