The independent Dutch enamellers played a key part in the spreading of the Japanese style in Europe. Little is known as to the identity of the artists or even if they were all Dutch, but they were very active in the 18th Century. Historical documents and dateable pieces are scarce, but some work has been started on grouping the different types of Dutch enamelling found on oriental porcelains. See E.
