A 'VENETIAN' ENAMELLED GILTMETAL-MOUNTED BLUE VASE
Late 19th Century
Of pear shape with vertically ribbed lower part and the slender neck with a broad everted rim, enamelled predominantly in shades of green, blue and white and with traces of gilding on a wide frieze showing a triumphal procession with a woman riding in a cart drawn by two centaurs holding shields, numerous maidens at various pursuits and two figures riding on swans, before trees and on a grassy sward, between bands of stylized flowers, flowerheads and scrolling flowering foliage and traces of gilding, the everted rim with blue and white flowering ornament between gilt lines, supported on a short foot applied with a trailed band and with a giltmetal mount, (crack to base extending through foot and to the lower part of the body)
