Lot Essay

Helen Hardin, the daughter of Pablita Velarde, began painting as a child and won her first award at the age of six. Influenced by the contemporary art movement, in which traditional forms were painted in radical new ways, she perfected her own abstract style using airbrush techniques, and later, etching, for which she won acclaim, (King 1995:66-67; Wyckoff 1996:19-49).
