Lot Essay

The box, within a marble-like frame of yew, displays an antique medallion celebrating the Cardinal Arts and is taken from F. Bartolozzi's 1783 engraving after Angelica Kauffmann's (d. 1810) painting that was entitled The Three Fine Arts (C. Helbock, Angelica Kauffmann, Düsseldorf, 1979, fig. 181).
