A PAIR OF OSTROGROTHIC GOLD EARRINGS
Circa 6th Century A.D.
Each composed of a hollow globe joined to a slightly tapering cylinder with coiled wire along the join, the globe bisected by a raised flange with alternating large and small pyramidal clusters of granulation above and below, a cluster of granulation at the base of the globe, the cylinder with a sheet cap with inverted pyramidal clusters of granulation descending from the wire rim, the cap pierced for insertion of the earwire, which coils into a hook and loop closure
