AN ATTIC RED-FIGURED COLUMN-KRATER
Circa Late 5th Century B.C.
The obverse with Dionysus seated on his panther skin, his curling tresses flowing on to his shoulders, holding a thyrsus and grape vines in his right hand, a maenad before him holding her mantle behind her, revealing her body, a panther between them, with a satyr to the left leaning forward, and a satyr to the right with a thyrsus, and a third under the handle; the reverse with two satyrs and a maenad, a large dinos on a stand under the other handle, both sides of the neck with a dog confronting a feline, a band of laurel on the rim, tongue on the shoulders, and egg-and-dart below the scenes
