A Sevres cup and trembleuse saucer
1774, cup with red interlaced L's enclosing date letter v and incised o///, saucer with blue interlaced L's, both with painter's mark w for Hileken and z for Joyau
Each with a pink ground reserved with white circles enclosed by blue dot ornament, the cup of tapering cylindrical form with entwined double loop handle with gilt foliage terminals, the ground reserved with a flattened oval gilt band cartouche with a wooded landscape vignette with a young shepherd sitting under a tree playing an oboe to a performing dog on its hind legs, the domed cover with gilt carnation finial, the ground reserved with a gilt-edged white band with a garland of flowers, the ground of the saucer divided by two kidney-shaped cartouches with trophies emblematic of love and music, gilt line rims (slight wear to gilding of finial and gilt rims of saucer)
