An early 19th-Century mining theodolite,
signed on the finely engraved compass dial Cail Newcastle upon Tyne., the telescope with sliding-tube focusing, object glass dust cap, with bubble level, mounted on a limb over the rack and pinion adjuster to the vertical half-circle, engraved in two quadrants on one side, the other side engraved with scale for Base or Underlie, the compass box with edge-bar needle on jewelled pivot and engraved star to the cardinal points, mounted on a limb on tripod attachment and ebonised plinth base -- 13¼in. (33.6cm.) high
