A 19th-Century miner's theodolite,
signed on the silvered compass dial W & S Jones, 30, Holborn LONDON, the vertical half-circle with rack and pinion adjustment for the fore and aft sights, mounted on a limb with bubble level, engraved on the outer scale Underlie in a Fathom, with silvered vernier scale, the arc mounted on a limb by twin turn-screws over the dial, with edge-bar needle, on tripod attachment, the lower surface of the dial mounted with a sideways-facing bubble level, on decorative mount with turned ebonised stand -- 13¾in. (35cm.) high
