The well-figured case applied overall with foliate carving, the plinth on gadroon-carved bracket feet, hollow-cornered raised panels to the sides and front applied with a cartouche of foliate carved mahogany, the arched trunk door applied with rocaille carving flanked by brass-capped and brass-reeded quarter columns, similar detached columns flanking the hood door and supporting the foliate-carved arched pediment flanked by two carved mahogany flambeau urn finials, the dial signed R.Comber, Lewes. Fecit. on the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with pierced blued steel hands, the matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring, foliate gilt-metal spandrels, the arch with silvered ring for chime/silent, flanked by gilt-metal dolphin spandrels, the substantial three train movement with anchor escapement chiming on eight bells via eight hammers and hour strike on a large gong fixed to the backboard
