With flat steel bed supported at each end on two bracket feet, crossed-out face plate (150 mm. diam.) with three adjustable dogs, and pump centring assembly, compound slide rest with tool cutter, cord driven from large wheel at the rear

Lot Essay

Mr W.J.M. Gazeley - "Bill" - was born in 1901 and died 1 July 1967 aged 66. He was the last of the master craftsmen of Clerkenwell.

He became an escapement maker to E. Dent & Co. and was an extremely competent marine chronometer escapement maker. He also carried out work for Charles Frodsham and made complete watches throughout for Ashley & Sims.

He was the author of Clock and Watch Escapements and Watch and Clock Making and Repairing - the latter being regonised as possibly the most erudite modern horological publication on this subject.
