The silvered dial signed and numbered John Fletcher. MAKER TO THE ADMIRALTY. 148 Leadenhall St. LONDON 3552, Roman hour numerals, gold hour and minute hands, subsidiary seconds dial with blued steel hand and up-and-down dial with gold hand, Earnshaw escapement, cut bimetallic balance with Poole auxiliary and cylindrical heat compensation weights, polished steel helical balance spring, spring foot detent with jewelled locking stone, brass bowl and gimbal in three-tier mahogany box with quarter-round brass edging, the middle section with inset mother-of-pearl plaque inscribed SOLD BY JOHN WILSON & CO. NEWCASTLE-ON-TYNE 3552, flush recessed brass handles

Lot Essay

The frames, bowl and dial plate and numbered 3552 as on the dial. However, the top-plate is also stamped K975 which may indicate that the frames were supplied by Kullberg.
