The silvered dial signed Thomas Mercer. MAKER TO THE ADMIRALTY. ST. ALBANS. ENGLAND No. 4, Roman hour numerals, subsidiary seconds and up-and-down dials, all hands of blued steel, semi-circular main-frame inscribed Thomas Mercer, St. Albans, No. 4 carrying fusee with cable wire in lieu of fusee chain, barrel and centre wheel and diagonal stepped chain guard between it and lower sub-frame assembly carrying the remainder of the train and Earnshaw escapement, cut bimetallic balance, cylindrical heat compensation weights, palladium helical balance spring, Mercer flat strip steel detent with jewelled locking pallet, three-tier brass-bound mahogany box, the centre section with applied silvered plaque inscribed with a Royal Crown 1977 within a laurel wreath above a cartouche inscribed THE QUEEN'S SILVER JUBILEE, external brass drop handles, in canvas outer carrying box with double leather straps; supplied with hardback edition of Mercer Chronometers, Radical Tom Mercer and the house he founded by Tony Mercer, this is a replacement copy for the original leather bound edition
