A PAIR OF LOUIS XV GILTWOOD FAUTEUILS

Each with channelled arched shaped padded back, arms and seat covered in light blue velvet, the toprail and seat-rail carved with a flower-spray, on channelled cabriole legs terminating in toupie feet, each stamped 'L. DELANOIS', re-gilt, possibly with traces of earlier gilding, variously numbered to the seat-rails (2)

Lot Essay

Louis Delanois, maître in 1761

In the ledgers of Delanois the distinctive arched rounded backs of these fauteuils à la Reine are often listed as 'à ceintre rond. They appear in the livres de comptes between 1767 and 1769 and in 1771, and cost between 8 and 16 livres each (S. Eriksen, Louis Delanois, Paris, 1968, p. 30 and Pl. V).
