By the late 1950s Ferrari's reputation for building low number production runs for sports-racing and fast road cars had to change, and to generate greater revenue for subsidising their racing activities, embarked upon an expanded programme of road-cars, which began with the third 250 series. In close cooperation with Pininfarina who provided the exciting styling for this new range of models, which in a short space of three years, virtually doubled the factory output. The new GTE coupe was built on the standard wheelbase of 2600 millimetres, but by repositioning the engine and transmission train, enabled the manufacturer to incorporate enlarged coachwork with the extra seating facility for the 2 plus 2 seating layout, which widened the scope for more buyers. In all some 950 examples were produced between 1960-1963. The engine was an up-rated development of Colombo's well proven V-12 unit, which was now capable of delivering some 235 brake horsepower at 7,000 revs per minute.

This car was delivered originally to Sweden, where it has been in careful use all its life. It was resprayed in 1980. Purchased by the current vendor in 1985 the interior was reupholstered early in his ownership. This has been carried out to exact factory specification in the finest tan leather, with matching trim and carpets, whilst the boot interior remains in good condition and is the original; rechroming was also carried out around the same period. It has been used sparingly during the last 15 years having 89,000 kilometres on the odometer, and this year has just undergone a complete brake overhaul, with reconditioned callipers and new brake-pads. Appropriately refinished in Italian racing red and complemented by polished alloy Borrani wire wheels fitted with Michelin 600x15 tyres, this car is presented in excellent original specification condition. Duty-paid in the EC, however it would require registration with the DVLA in Swansea for road use in the UK.
